Essential Job Duties

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Promoting external fellowships to current and prospective graduate students
• Helping students navigate the diverse sources of information about fellowships, and identify the most promising opportunities
• Matching students with specific fellowship opportunities and individuals (e.g., current fellows or faculty) who can help in the application process
• Informing students about the experiences and credentials that are viewed favorably by specific fellowship sources (e.g., through individual meetings, departmental and university-level workshops)
• Reviewing and critiquing graduate student fellowship applications to help ensure their competitiveness
• Building a network of externally funded graduate fellows at NC State.

• Doctorate at the time of employment, or master’s degree with extensive fellowship/grant-writing experience
• Demonstrated ability to garner external funding

Departmental Required Skills

The person in this position will work closely with the Graduate School staff, the Fellowship Advising Office, and academic units across the University. The successful candidate will be familiar with graduate education and have extensive fellowship/grant-writing experience. In addition, the individual must be knowledgeable about sources of funding for graduate education, how to use online tools to find such opportunities, and have a strong record of mentoring students through the fellowship application process. The successful candidate must have a rapport with students, be adaptable to their priorities and abilities, and possess excellent networking skills.

• Doctorate at the time of employment, or master’s degree with extensive fellowship/grant-writing experience
• Demonstrated ability to garner external funding
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
• Availability to work weekends and evenings, as necessary to meet student needs
