Essential Job Duties

The User Interface Designer will work with members of the Digital Library Initiatives department to improve the usability of NCSU Libraries web applications that support archival research and the management of special collections in the Libraries.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:

-Work with developers to address specific user interface design challenges in open source web applications
-Prototype interface solutions for evaluation and user testing
-Work with existing front-end frameworks in developing UI design solutions
-Provide working HTML and CSS code that can be integrated into applications
-Assist in establishing design conventions that can be applied to multiple projects

Minimum Experience/Education
Departmental Required Skills

-Graduate or undergraduate student status
-Demonstrated proficiency in designing forms and other interface elements for web sites and/or applications
-Interest in user-centered design
-Proficiency with HTML and CSS
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-Excellent communication skills

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

-Experience using front end development frameworks such as Foundation or Bootstrap
-Experience using version control systems like Git and GitHub
