Essential Job Duties

The Extension Program Assistant (PA) is a member of the staff of North Carolina State University. The PA in cooperation with the supervising agent has responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating agriculture programs for Columbus County. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Travel within the county is required regularly.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the role of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension as an educational agency.

In cooperation with the supervising agent, participates in organizing, planning with, and maintaining effective committees and task forces relevant to areas of program responsibility and consistent with the county Advisory Leadership System.

Under the direction of the supervising agent, develops a plan of work, plan of action, and evaluation of programs if appropriate.

Implements and maintains the Affirmative Action Plan of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Maintains a high level of competency.

Implements and maintains the marketing plan of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Minimum Experience/Education

The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Advanced training in related fields is preferred.

Departmental Required Skills

Computer Literacy; applicant must be proficient with computer technology due to the use of reporting requirements.

Strong oral and written communication skills; applicant should be able to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form, as well as the ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with adults and the general community, and staff.

The ability to plan, implement, market and evaluated educational programs; a willingness to work as part of the team; the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities; experience in managing adult volunteer leaders and in conducting non-formal group education sessions; and experience teaching or training adult learners.

The ability to work creatively with persons of diverse backgrounds is desirable.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Education or Horticulture is preferred.

Experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds and/or with development, training, and recruitment of volunteers is preferred.

Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the PAs job requires that the individual to possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual.

The employee should be adept in both verbal and written communication.

Required License or Certification

Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation are required and must be maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.
