Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Physics Department provides (1) High quality Physics instruction to the University community through gateway courses in introductory physics: (2) educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in physics through high quality curricula, faculty, and research facilities: (3) outreach programs that advance scientific knowledge. Our research programs cover a diverse spectrum including astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, and atomic and molecular theory. The department enrolls 110 graduate students and 160 undergraduate physics majors. The department is staffed by 42 Faculty.

Essential Job Duties

Direct an internationally recognized and funded program of research in physics. This position is for a Professor in Nuclear theory whose research program is aligned with that of the DOE Nuclear Physics Topical Collaboration on “Beam Energy Scan Theory (BEST)” and the Riken/BNL Research Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory. A successful candidate is expected to contribute to the goals which include Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics, Transport Theory, and Lattice Gauge Theory.

Position will advise and direct undergraduate students, graduate student and post doctoral research associates in research leading to peer-reviewed publications. Teach undergraduate and graduate classes at the standard departmental teaching load for research active faculty. Provide service to the Department and/or the University through membership on standing committees.

Minimum Education/Experience

Ph.D. degree in physics or a physics-related area.

Departmental Required Skills

Must have experience teaching physics to undergraduate and/or graduate students. Publication of research articles in peer-reviewed professional journals.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preference will be given to candidates whose research program is aligned with that of the DOE Nuclear Physics Topical Collaboration on “Beam Energy Scan Theory (BEST)” and the Riken/BNL Research Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory. A successful candidate is expected to contribute to the goals of the collaboration, which include Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics, Transport Theory, and Lattice Gauge Theory.
