Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The primary function of the organizational unit, Insurance and Risk Management, is to administer and manage a comprehensive risk management program for the University to include insurance procurement (property and casualty), risk management consulting, and claims handling.

Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to administer risk management and insurance programs to our University clientele. This position takes a lead role in the administration of accounting and management of our vehicle insurance program and applications program for our large number of customers. The University insures more self-propelled vehicles for liability than any other institution in the UNC System. This position also entails providing customer service and consultation on other categories of insurance coverage and risk management topics.

Other Work/Responsibilities

In this position, employee has an active role as EH&S Center Building Liaison which involves close communications between staff of entire center and also with Facilities Operations personnel as to building needs, repairs, and issues. Keeps employee informed of any workplace issues that may affect fellow employees.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Knowledge of insurance policies and programs.

Knowledge of Financials.

Excellent communication skills, oral & written.

Ability to maintain accurate, comprehensive records.

Strong oral and written skills, attentiveness to details, organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently and take initiative.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

High School Graduate, minimum BS or BA preferred

2 years of experience in the insurance industry and 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping

Required License or Certification
