The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education emphasizes exemplary teaching, scholarship, and service in the context of a university education. With a primary emphasis on improving schools and society, the Department prepares quality educators for middle, secondary, and post-secondary school science, technology, engineering, mathematics, graphic communications, and informal settings. In addition, the Department offers minors, including Technology, Engineering, and Education licensure track and a Technical Graphic Communications track for industry. The Department also has programs preparing professionals for leadership at the master’s and doctoral levels.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) Education in the College of Education at NC State invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Curriculum, Technology, and Equity in Mathematics Education. We desire a forward-thinking scholar who addresses challenges facing students and teachers in providing fair and effective access to new models for digital curricular delivery that serve the needs of all students. This scholar will engage in one or more of these three facets of work: curriculum, technology, and equity. Preference will be given to candidates who show evidence of a curricular focus, such as algebraic reasoning. We seek a future colleague who has demonstrated a commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in research and teaching and engage with underserved and marginalized communities. The successful candidates will collaborate in interdisciplinary research and have the ability to obtain external funding to support research and graduate students.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate middle and secondary mathematics teacher preparation courses. Teach graduate courses in master’s and PhD programs, including interdisciplinary and methodology courses at the doctoral level in STEM Education and in the College of Education. Conduct and publish research related to curriculum, technology, and equity in mathematics education. Advise undergraduate and graduate students. Recruit and mentor graduate students in research. Provide outreach and service for Department and College initiatives for underserved communities and high needs areas. Pursue and obtain external funding for research and development activities. Continue a program of well-established and focused research and related publications. Provide service and leadership to the program area, department, college, university, and professional organizations, participate in outreach and engagement, and collaborate with faculty within the college and across the university.

Minimum Education/Experience

PhD, EdD, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience in Mathematics Education and teaching experience at the K-12 level.

Departmental Required Skills

A commitment to diversity, social justice, and collaboration. Scholarship and successful record of external funding in Mathematics Education commensurate with rank.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Experience teaching in a teacher education program and/or a mathematics department which trains teachers and a minimum of three years teaching experience at the K-12 level are preferred.
