Essential Job Duties

The N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) advances a sustainable energy economy by educating, demonstrating and providing support for clean energy technologies, practices, and policies.

NNCETC is seeking to hire a temporary communications assistant to begin late September. This position has an expected workload of between 30-40 hours per week, though a part-time position can be considered (we encourage current students to apply and are willing to make some accommodations for student schedules). This is a temporary position (we can consider an academic year length position for current students).

Job Purpose:
The communications assistant would be responsible for assisting in the creation and maintenance of digital content while also working to coordinate broadcast media and event related activities for the transportation program and Center-wide communications. The person in this role would work directly with the NCCETC Communications Manager and the Clean Transportation Program’s team members.

• Aid in the development of the Center/Transportation Program email communications (i.e. quarterly newsletter, event emails).
• Seek out and write content for online blogs, website articles and more.
• Develop illustrative content through the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Maintaining relationships with partner organizations for online collaborative opportunities.
• Create and post relevant and interesting industry content to the NCCETC’s social media pages.
• Assist with drafting press releases related to Center activities for local media.
• Develop informative documents such as fact sheets, case studies, etc.
• Assist with document design and layout.
• Assist with coordinating media campaigns, including the production and placement of social media videos.
• Assist with event planning and coordination.

Other Work/Responsibilities
Minimum Experience/Education

A minimum of one year of relevant study in higher education or related work experience is required.

Departmental Required Skills

Required Skills:
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Apps (Google Docs, Sheets);
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
• Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preferred Skills
• Demonstrated knowledge, interest and/or work in the area of topic.
• Strong background in the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) with portfolio of projects to share.
• Strong background in creating and writing content for different media.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Experience managing social media accounts.
• Photography and videography (including video editing) skills helpful.
• Background and/or currently studying PR, Marketing, Communications, or Design.
• Master’s Degree or current master’s student preferred
• Previous work or internship in sustainability or the clean energy industry and/or academic work in these topic areas.
