Essential Job Duties

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will conduct behavioral and genetic research associated with Godwin’s DARPA award focused on the potential utility of gene drives to control invasive mouse populations. The key research questions the applicant will address are whether island populations of house mice are characterized by behavioral and genetic adaptations that are likely to affect the efficacy of a gene drive approach to population control. The successful applicant will also prepare manuscripts and grants.

Other Work/Responsibilities

In addition to conducting independent research, the incumbent will help prepare manuscripts. Mentorship of students will also be an important aspect of this position.

Minimum Experience/Education

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.

Departmental Required Skills

Required qualifications include experience with rodent behavioral studies, field experience studying wild rodents, and hormone assays. Experience with technological approaches to tracking animal behavior and space use highly desirable.
