Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Client Solutions provides customer facing IT services and solutions for students, faculty, and staff of NC State University. Services provided include IT Service Management, ServiceNow application development, server and application maintenance and support via the Hosted Services team, development of secure computing environments, cloud computing architecture and design, and desktop support. Our ServiceNow development role is to support, in coordination with other campus consulting groups, the faculty, staff, and students of NC State University in their computing and technology endeavors by focusing on understanding their needs and developing solutions that work for the campus community.

Essential Job Duties

The NCSU ServiceNow Developer is a part of a rapid application development team, building enterprise applications using the Platform as a Service (PaaS) delivery model. The ServiceNow Developer applies practical knowledge of development and engineering to conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software fixes, enhancements, components, and/or new software applications of moderate complexity that may or may not integrate with external systems. The developer focuses on coding at the component level and works under minimal supervision. The developer is responsible for managing development projects and reporting status of those projects to management. The developer works in a team atmosphere with absolute transparency.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Gathering and documenting end user and process requirements, functional requirements, and developing technical requirements.

Developing workflow customizations.

In-depth understanding of ServiceNow functionality and how all ITIL processes can be implemented in ServiceNow. This includes, but is not limited to Incident Management, Change Management, Problem, Asset Management, CMDB Management, Service Catalog, and Problem Management modules.

Translating business requirements into code, programming, testing and debugging, and ensuring adherence to defined ServiceNow engineering processes.

Following processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

With limited direction, supporting the implementation of systems into production
Scrum/Agile development experience and ability to work in a high velocity and deliver manner.

Develop realistic and data-driven project plans.

Manage customer expectations to coincide with the needs of all relevant stakeholders, including other customers, resource limitations, and IT policies and best practices

Provide training and assistance with applications during and after the project implementation.

Participate in ongoing production support and end user support.

This position is required to travel to various locations on campus frequently to perform the core functions of the position.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree with nine credit hours in programming and three years of experience in Business Applications Consulting or Development; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

At least two years of professional experience developing custom applications and internal development on the ServiceNow platform is strongly preferred.

Experience integrating ServiceNow with external systems through SOAP or REST web services.

Experience with the ServiceNow Studio IDE

Experience using the Workflow Editor to configure workflows.

Experience with HTML5, JAVA, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, Angular.js, Rest API, Jelly.

ServiceNow Certified Application Developer or Certified Implementation Specialist.

At least two years implementing ServiceNow solutions or at least three years of development experience in an ITSM (IT Service Management) application.

Required License or Certification

ServiceNow Certified Application Developer or Certified Implementation Specialist preferred.

ITIL Foundation Certification preferred.
