Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Center for Family and Community Engagement, located in Humanities and Social Sciences, is dedicated to advancing safe, healthy, and productive families and communities. It promotes strategies that widen the circle of supports around families and communities. This is accomplished through emphasizing family leadership, community partnerships, cultural safety, and inclusive planning.

Essential Job Duties

The Instructional Designer will:

• Work with curriculum writers and subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs
• Understand instructional end goals and create content that matches them
• Create supporting material/media (audio, video, podcasts, simulations, role plays, games, etc)
• Build online learning assessments using tools such as Qualtrics and Moodle
• Record and edit voice and sound
• Support quality product through coaching of people’s performance while they are being recorded by audio and/or visual equipment
• Lead effort to build and enforce center standards for graphics in compliance with university college policies and guidelines
• Ensure materials are in compliance with accessibility and copyright laws and create and enforce written guidelines around the same for center staff
• Support live online training events by researching, evaluating, and recommending new technology and refine use of current technology and by helping participants manage technical difficulties
• Mentor co-workers and advise on design and use of technology and software
• Maintain project documentation and course folders
• Manage website and social media presence

Minimum Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s in instructional design, educational technology or similar field plus a minimum of one to two years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven working experience in instructional design technology building engaging experiences that support transfer of learning
• Knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
• Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System

Departmental Required Skills

• Lesson and curriculum planning skills
• Visual design skills using current software
• Ability to storyboard
• Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
• Ability to work well independently and with local and remotely located team members

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar field
• Ability to use animation and 3D modeling software
• Ability to build applications for mobile devices
• Strong familiarity with 508 compliance and copyright laws
