Essential Job Duties

This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 40-hour per week position. This position is 100% funded by grant and county funding and contingent upon available funding.

The Extension Program Assistant/Associate has the responsibility of establishing and maintaining 4-H units within the military population to include National Guard and Reserves. The primary role of this position involves recruiting and training present and potential volunteers to manage clubs and special programs in a productive manner and to identify resources to assist in conducting the military 4-H program. Applicant must be available for evening, nights and weekend activities for a maximum of 40 hours. An accurate record of hours worked and accomplishments must be maintained daily. Performs other related duties as required or assigned; to include front desk coverage, greeting and directing clients, and answering incoming calls

Other Work/Responsibilities

The Extension Program Assistant/Associate receives direct supervision from the County Extension Director.

Travel within county is required; district and state travel is required occasionally

Minimum Experience/Education

The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Advanced training in related fields is preferred.

Departmental Required Skills

The Extension Program Assistant/Associate must have the ability to plan, organize, and work with adult volunteer leaders. They must have the ability to relate to and understand youth. They must have an interest in and understanding of the needs, problems, and attitudes of military youth and adults.
Due to the unique and transitory demands of military life, applicant must be highly motivated and quick to respond to identify and train new staff/volunteers and develop relationships. Position requires knowledge of basic military protocol.
Applicant must be proficient with computer technology due to the use of Mobile Technology Lab and other reporting requirements.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds and/or with the development, training, and recruitment of volunteers is preferred.

They should possess the ability to work creatively with persons of diverse backgrounds. Applicant should be able to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form, as well as the ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with youth and adults, the general community, and staff.
Required License or Certification

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required and must be maintained.

In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.
