Primary Function of Organizational Unit | In 2007 NC State University’s Institute for Advanced Analytics established itself as the leader in graduate analytics education, an emerging field that includes data management, mathematical and statistical methods for data modeling, and techniques for data visualization in support of enterprise-wide decision-making. The Institute’s core mission is to prepare students for the challenging task of deriving insight from vast quantities of structured and unstructured data. Its flagship program is the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA), an innovative and immersive professional science master’s degree of ten months duration. The program has recently doubled its student capacity and seeks talented faculty and staff committed to continuing the program’s success in educational innovation and student outcomes. |
Essential Job Duties | The Faculty member will teach modules in the MSA program as assigned; assist in curriculum planning; and create and assemble new in-class and online instructional materials and assessment tools. In addition, the incumbent will participate in scholarly and service activities, such as research, consulting, and outreach activities consistent with Institute priorities. |
Other Work/Responsibilities | Provide instructional support and coaching to MSA students individually and in groups. Supervise graduate teaching assistant(s). Serve on Admissions committee. |
Minimum Education/Experience | An earned doctorate in statistics, applied mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field; and five or more years of university teaching experience. |
Departmental Required Skills | •Record of successful college/university teaching experience. •Excellent communication skills. •Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in course design and delivery. |
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | •Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and teach graduate level courses. •Programming experience in SAS, JMP and/or R is strongly preferred. •Ability to develop and deliver instructional modules in linear algebra, multivariate analyses, probability distributions, and optimization. •Teaching experience in the fields of optimization techniques, data mining, regression analysis, linear algebra and survival analysis. •Experience teaching introductory statistical concepts is strongly preferred. |
Required License or Certification | Candidates must have earned doctoral degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics or a related quantitative field. |
