Essential Job Duties

The laboratory of Dr. Troy Ghashghaei (http://tghashghaeilab.org/) is seeking postdoctoral scholars with a strong interest in neurosciences. The successful candidate must possess past training in experimental approaches using, cellular, molecular and genetic mouse models. Preference will be given to individuals with documented experience with current molecular, biochemical and high throughput analytical methods applied to developing tissues and cells. The successful candidate will immediately become involved with NIH-funded projects addressing novel mechanisms underlying ependymal cell development, function and regulation of brain homeostasis using both in vivo and in vitro approaches. The post doc will have access to state-of-the-art tools with the possibility of developing their own. Applicants must have their PhD in cell cell/molecular biology, developmental biology, or other related field, and have at least one first authored manuscript in a reputable journal. A successful postdoc will fulfill their duties of overseeing their experimental platforms including mouse and reagent management, conduct experiments daily, collect and analyze data, and submit results for publication in reputable journals related to this field.

The broad objective of the project is to investigate the function of genes and proteins in genetic mice developed and under development in the laboratory. The individual who fills this position will assist in ongoing projects in the laboratory.
The main responsibilities will include:
1. Breeding and maintenance of genetic mice in our mouse colony.
2. Recording, photo-documenting, interpreting, and evaluation PCR-based genotyping data.
3. Supervising and training graduate students and temporary employees in the use of the mouse colony, including mouse handling and breeding procedures.

Other Work/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will establish a research project and obtain and maintain all necessary elements to run the project. The postdoc is expected to make presentations regarding his/her research, to publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals, and to participate in grant proposal preparation.

Minimum Experience/Education

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.
