Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The primary function of organizational unit is to support Extension programs in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Community and Rural Development. Our primary responsibility is to assist Extension Professionals in developing and conducting successful programs that are viable, visible, and relevant to existing and emerging needs.

Essential Job Duties

• Plan, refine, implement, manage, and evaluate the NC Industrial Hemp Pilot Program as set forth by the Industrial Hemp Commission and as outlined in NC HB 992.
• Collect and maintain all records required or requested by Commission rules or by local, state, and federal law.
• Report all production locations (GPS) and size to the State Bureau of Investigation.
• Be the responsible for all communications between all producers/processors/buyers and the Commission ensuring that producers/processors/buyers are aware of all program policies, rules, expectations, deadlines, fees, and program or commission updates. Communications will be coordinated with the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Research Stations Division. General public releases will be coordinated through the Chair, Vice-Chair, or NCDA&CS Public Affairs. • Provide briefings, as needed but no less frequently than weekly, to the Chair and Vice-Chair of the NC Industrial Hemp Commission. Provide updates to the whole commission no less frequently than at every Commission meeting
• Coordinate educational materials/programs for producers in the pilot program.
• Collaborate with other agencies, law enforcement, businesses and organizations to ensure success of the pilot program.
• Establish themselves as an expert resource on the pilot program.
• Collaborate with Extension/research faculty and NCDA&CS staff to conduct research and demonstrations and to facilitate research information transfer to the industry and interested citizens.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Incumbent will also need to:
• Perform other duties as needed in collaboration with the Industrial Hemp Commission
• Be willing and having the ability to work extra hours or flex hours and weekends as required.
• Provide their own dependable, personal vehicle and have the ability to drive independently across the state.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree, from an accredited institution, in an applicable field of study, plus relevant experience.

Additionally, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check and not have a history of illegal drug use.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Highly competitive candidates will have demonstrated success managing and/or developing multi-facetted, people-focused programs, projects, or organizations, especially related to agriculture, will be given preference. Additionally, those candidates with a leadership, farm background, or agriculture, accounting, or legal experience are considered highly competitive.

Required License or Certification

Must have valid NC drivers license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of start of hire in order to be able to travel to and from state and private farms for research planning and evaluation. License must be maintained throughout employment.
