Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Statistics at North Carolina State University (www.stat.ncsu.edu) is one of the largest in the U.S., with 50 full-time faculty, 180 undergraduate majors, and over 200 graduate students in our on-campus and online programs. It provides a dynamic environment for teaching, research, consulting, and collaborations across disciplines. The Department has a history of integrating undergraduate through postdoctoral research and education and has a strong support staff. The Department is the birthplace of SAS, a co-founder of the nearby National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS), and a partner in the NSF-funded Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI). Its location in the Research Triangle provides rich interactions with nonprofit, private, and governmental institutions that include a wide array of internships and traineeships at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Essential Job Duties

The NC State College of Sciences brings together the mathematical, physical, and biological sciences. The Head reports to the Dean of the College of Sciences and is responsible for administrative, budgetary, and personnel matters. The Head is expected to set the highest standard for the Department with regard to scholarship and professional activities and to have a balanced appreciation for teaching, research, consulting, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, research, and doctoral student research supervision. Minimum Education/Experience

Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics or relevant field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

Proven teaching and research experience.

Publications in scholarly journals.

Experience incorporating diverse perspectives in research by establishing an inclusive environment.

Experience with administrative responsibilities will strengthen your application.
