Essential Job Duties

The Living and Learning Village Director for the Impact Leadership Village is a full-time, master degree required position. This position manages and oversees the academic and programmatic initiatives of a living and learning community housing 240 undergraduate residents.

The Impact Leadership Village provides experiential learning for students who have a passion for leadership and service. Students are given the opportunity to engage in practical application of leadership to real world issues and explore leadership development through personal engagement with professionals in various fields. The Impact Leadership Village enhances students’ college experience and prepares leaders to make their personal IMPACT on the state, nation and world.

The Impact Leadership Village Director will be responsible for the following primary duties:

Village Mission & Student Development:
• Serve as the face of the Village by holding office hours, attending events, being visible, available and developing positive relationships with Village students.
• Develop, implement and evaluate student success initiatives and Village mission specific programs with special emphasis on offering high impact activities such as student research projects, trips, group project work, and service and experiential learning opportunities that foster creativity and critical thinking.
• For 2016 – 2017 administer two sections of the ILV course, SLC 101 which teaches ILV students leadership through the Relationship Model lens. Starting fall 2017, also serve as the SLC 101 instructor for the two course sections.
• Create a comprehensive training and development program for ILV Community Leaders and advise ILV Student Council.
• Develop and administer an ILV Scholar-in-Residence program
• Market and coordinate in hall Village study hall programs.
• Serve as an academic and personal development coach in support of ILV students.
• Create distinct 1st year and 2nd year Village programs and experiences to meet ILV participant continued development needs.

Administration & Member Services:
• Complete Village administrative tasks including Village and course inquiry response, monthly and annual reports, alumni database management, budget monitoring, photo and report archiving, Village programming and involvement opportunity calendar, Advisory Council meeting agendas, minutes and related reports.
• Create and implement Village membership retention, recruitment and growth plan and represent Village at recruitment events.
• Develop Village branding plan and marketing materials in collaboration with the University Housing Marketing staff.
• Recruit, select and administer Village membership.
• Keep Village web and social media presence updated and fresh in collaboration with University Housing IT staff.
• Administer Village housing assignments in collaboration with Housing Assignments staff.
• Monitor Village member requirement fulfillment and communicate status with students.
• Coordinate Village early move-in (if applicable), orientation, banquet and graduation recognition in collaboration with Village student leadership.
• Maintain Village alumni contact database, create alumni newsletters, provide continued involvement opportunities, and plan reunion events.
• Enhance the Village’s reputation through publications and conference presentations.

Supervision:
• Recruit, select, train, develop, supervise, and evaluate ILV Community Leader staff.
• With the goal of students having a seamless experience, work closely with the building Residence Director to build a strong Resident Advisor and Community Leader team that communicates often and well, and coordinates and collaborates in program planning and implementation.
• Develop and oversee student internship opportunities for academic credit that enhance the Village.

Partnership Development and Executive Management:
• Develop the ILV Advisory Council by providing new Advisory Council member orientation, offering continued Village mission related training workshops, leading Advisory Council Meetings, and monitoring Advisory Council progress.
• Lead the creation and implementation of a vision and strategic plan for ILV’s future growth, development and sustainability.
• Cultivate cross Village collaborations.
• Develop faculty, staff, non-profit organization, and corporate partnerships that advance the ILV mission.
• Develop and secure new funding sources including researching, applying for and administering grants to advance the ILV mission.
• Develop and administer ILV assessment initiatives, provide executive summaries of findings to stakeholders, provide assessment based Village improvement recommendations and plans to stakeholders.

• A master’s degree related to Village mission (Leadership) with college student development experience or a master’s in Higher Education or related field and strong demonstrated expertise in Village mission (Leadership)
• Demonstrated experience in vision and strategic planning
• Two years full time related professional work experience

• Demonstrated program planning and implementation experience
• Demonstrated experience developing ongoing partnerships
• Computer proficiency including Word, Excel, database management, and publishing software
