Essential Job Duties

Installation of new and renovated landscapes across the campus of North Carolina State University.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*digging, planting, raking, watering and clean up of landscapes
*loading and unloading of heavy equipment and planting materials from trucks
*safe operation of equipment (handtools, shovels, picks, rakes, chainsaws, mowers, etc.)

Other Work/Responsibilities
Minimum Experience/Education

Field experience in landscape installation (planting trees, shrubs, mulching, grading, etc.)
Experience using tools such as shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, etc.

Departmental Required Skills

*Ability to follow instructions and to perform physical work
*Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
*Ability to work around bees, poison ivy, pollen, thorns and other environmental risks
*Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs on a routine basis including handling large root balls
*Ability to work in a team setting
*Must maintain professionalism at all times and be able to wear work boots and clean Landscape Construction Services uniforms
*Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
*Must comply with University & NCSU Grounds Management policies and procedures

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Prior landscape installation experience.
Ability to interpret and follow official landscape plans.
Horticulture knowledge preferred.
Pesticide/herbicide application certifications.
Backhoe, excavator, bobcat or other equipment experience and/or certification.
Knowledge of brick, paver, or concrete installation.
Knowledge of irrigation systems.
Knowledge of stormwater devices.
Grading/drainage/earthwork experience a plus.
Any other landscape-related licenses/certifications.
